The shoot with fitness model Charles Flanagan was fun to say the least. I started prepping this shoot before I even found Charles, but re-designed some minor elements once I confirmed him for this shoot. His physique is outstanding, as you can see, but he also took direction incredibly well - which made this shoot a big success.
The lighting setup here wasn’t quite new, but it wasn’t something I have done in the past either. It’s a variation of one of my commercial lighting setups. After drawing out the diagram in the prep stages, I thought I was all ready to go. After taking a few shots, I “saw” the light from a different angle and knew I had to change it up on the fly. It might sound weird saying that I can SEE light when it isn’t there, but it’s the truth and I know a few other shooters that can attest to this weird, but very helpful talent.
For the sweat, lots of artists rely on spray bottles, but we created the effect by systematically applying a mixture of glycerin and water with an assortment of makeup brushes in various densities to appear as sweat would naturally.
The fog isn’t an effect in post - it’s real.
I would like to thank Charles Flanagan, Rosaline Hampton, and Amanda Rubeck for taking part in this shoot. It was a lot of fun. Thanks guys.
Cheers and happy shooting,
